District tournaments are all scratch weights. It is at the region tournament that the NYWA weight classes are used.
All districts will wrestle round-robin brackets.
All region tournaments will be 16-man brackets. The top 3 in each weight class will advance to state with the exception of the wild card region which will advance the top 4. The wild card region rotates each year.
Wrestlers cannot change weight classes from regions to state.
Pre-K wrestlers can participate in NYWA; they will be bracketed in the kindergarten weight class.
All wrestlers must make the weight they are registered for (tenths are not covered up). If they do not make weight, they will be disqualified and no rebracketing is done. Wrestlers do NOT get any weight allowance at regions (not for team or for individual) but all wrestlers will receive a one-lb. allowance at state.
All wrestlers must weigh in with singlets on. As of 03-09-2022, a wrestler may also weigh in and wrestle in a compression shirt and wrestling shorts.
Shoelaces must be taped and headgear is required.
If there is a 3-way tie at districts, all wrestlers will qualify.
All wrestlers participating in an NYWA district, region, state or girls event (individual or team) must have an NYWA membership prior to wrestling. The NYWA membership carries a secondary medical policy with it. The insurance covers a wrestler at any practice or NYWA event.
A wrestler can wrestle at as many districts as they want but once they qualified at one region, they cannot take registration papers in another region. Choose the region you want to qualify in and ONLY register for that region.
A wrestler cannot wrestle in two regions.
Girls can wrestle in both team events as well as either the Invite or State tournament. Registration is required for each event.
